Call for jury

Join the ITU Virtual Digital World 2020 SME Awards as a jury member to help select the best innovative small businesses and solutions with positive social impact.

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, ITU Digital World, the leading UN tech event for governments, businesses and SMEs, has been postponed. It will now take place as ITU Digital World 2021 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, in Q4 2021.

So we’ve launched an online version of the ITU Digital World Awards recognizing the best in innovative tech solutions with social impact - the ITU Virtual Digital World 2020 SME Awards taking place in November and December 2020. We want to support and encourage tech SMEs at a time of global crisis – and at a time when our need for digital technology and solutions has never been greater.

We’re looking to celebrate and reward sustainable tech SMEs and startups working on innovative solutions or products with positive social impact.  And in order to identify the most promising businesses and ideas, we are seeking experts to help evaluate the entrants.

Benefits for jury members

Jury members will join our online community, feature on the ITU Digital World website and receive a complementary executive pass to attend ITU Digital World 2021 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, and enjoy all the associated benefits, including access to networking opportunities, access to the LeaderSpace to meet with prominent participants of the event and access to all Forum sessions over the entire four days of the event

Evaluation will be based on information provided in the application forms and in live pitching sessions. There are four categories for entrants to choose from:

  • Connectivity - innovative solutions to increasing universal access to the internet.
  • Smart cities/smart living - innovative use of digital tech to improve urban life and beyond in areas such as energy, transport, planning, food management, commerce and education.
  • eHealth - Using technology to improve healthcare through remote diagnosis and treatment, care in the home, monitoring and prevention.
  • Digital finance – ICT-based initiatives focused on increasing and improving access to the economy for the banked and unbanked

Jury members will be selected based on their expertise in the different industry categories, their experience in evaluating startups and SMEs, their capacity to invest in companies and their ability to connect businesses with their own professional network.
